Administrators' newsletter – January 2020[edit]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2019).

Guideline and policy news

Arbitration

  • The fourth case on Palestine-Israel articles was closed. The case consolidated all previous remedies under one heading, which should make them easier to understand, apply, and enforce. In particular, the distinction between "primary articles" and "related content" has been clarified, with the former being the entire set of articles whose topic relates to the Arab-Israeli conflict, broadly interpreted rather than reasonably construed.
  • Following the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been appointed to the Arbitration Committee: Beeblebrox, Bradv, Casliber, David Fuchs, DGG, KrakatoaKatie, Maxim, Newyorkbrad, SoWhy, Worm That Turned, Xeno.

Administrators' newsletter – February 2020[edit]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (January 2020).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, partial blocks are now enabled on the English Wikipedia. This functionality allows administrators to block users from editing specific pages or namespaces rather than the entire site. A draft policy is being workshopped at Wikipedia:Partial blocks.
  • The request for comment seeking the community's sentiment for a binding desysop procedure closed with wide-spread support for an alternative desysoping procedure based on community input. No proposed process received consensus.

Technical news

  • Twinkle now supports partial blocking. There is a small checkbox that toggles the "partial" status for both blocks and templating. There is currently one template: {{uw-pblock}}.
  • When trying to move a page, if the target title already exists then a warning message is shown. The warning message will now include a link to the target title. [1]

Arbitration

  • Following a recent arbitration case, the Arbitration Committee reminded administrators that checkuser and oversight blocks must not be reversed or modified without prior consultation with the checkuser or oversighter who placed the block, the respective functionary team, or the Arbitration Committee.

Administrators' newsletter – March 2020[edit]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (February 2020).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, the blocking policy was changed to state that sysops must not undo or alter CheckUser or Oversight blocks, rather than should not.
  • A request for comment confirmed that sandboxes of established but inactive editors may not be blanked due solely to inactivity.

Technical news

  • Following a discussion, Twinkle's default CSD behavior will soon change, most likely this week. After the change, Twinkle will default to "tagging mode" if there is no CSD tag present, and default to "deletion mode" if there is a CSD tag present. You will be able to always default to "deletion mode" (the current behavior) using your Twinkle preferences.

Proposed deletion of Communards' Wall[edit]

Notice

The article Communards' Wall has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Article is entirely unsourced except for first sentence; contains inaccurate information (for instance misidentifying memorial as per talk page discussion from years back); sever POV issues, generally written like a personal reflection or essay

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Guideline and policy news

Arbitration

  • A motion was passed to enact a 500/30 restriction on articles related to the history of Jews and antisemitism in Poland during World War II (1933–45), including the Holocaust in Poland. Article talk pages where disruption occurs may also be managed with the stated restriction.

Bad close[edit]

Hi, there are several days left on that AfD that you closed and it does not reflect the consensus of the discussion, can you reopen it please. If you have an opinion you could put in the discussion instead of the early close. Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/List_of_hospitals_in_Angola. Specifically, the discussion started just 3 days ago, most of the !votes are for Keep despite the Merge option. It looks like you are involved as you have edited a lot of Healthcare in articles and you closed the discussion after performing the merger. This would likely go to deletion review as it appears you haven't followed the guidelines for deletion debates. PainProf (talk) 23:02, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi. I was not involved. I only added templates and pictures to similar articles in Africa while comparing the treatment of similar articles across Wikipedia, just before closing the discussion. There was no consensus in the discussion between "keep" and "merge" and I specifically mentioned in the comments of the close that the article could be recreated as a standalone article if/when there is more material to be included. No content was lost in the process. That being said I agree that I closed the article early and I am currently working on the reopening of the discussion, in order to generate more comments and to tentatively reach a consensus. Olivier (talk) 08:00, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
Ok that make sense, I think a neutral statement at wikiproject hospitals might be useful they have some internal policies on the organisation of lists. So they may have some interst. Thanks PainProf (talk) 08:15, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
The discussion has been reopened and the article restored. Olivier (talk) 09:39, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
